DESCRIPTION:Important: I need to know in good time how many people are coming\, so please tell me if you're coming - if I explicitly invited you\, give me an RSVP! With zero persons coming we'll probably procrastinate it until Tuesday\, if there will be 12 persons coming I may have a problem ... but at least it would be nice to know in advance.\n\nWhat: Whale with a creamy sauce and potatoes.  I've lost the count of how often I've been serving this meal in Varna\, are there anyone yet here that didn't taste it?\n\nWhere: Depends a bit on the weather.  If there won't be too much waves\, I'd love to do it in the Cape Galata bay.  Possibly we can pick up people at the Captain Georgi Georgiev Yacht Club\n\nEthical concerns: The common minke whale is NOT endangered. It holds a "Least Concern" status on the IUCN Red List (while the Antarctic minke whale is classified as "Near Threatened"). Unlike quite many of the "factory-raised" chicken\, pigs and cows that are being raised just to be slaughtered and eaten\, those animals have been living a free and happy life. Unlike some other sea mammals living in closely knit family pods\, the minke whales typically roam around alone\, so the whale we eat (probably) won't be missed by the family. Some decades ago there was a severe global problem with no regulations on whale hunting\, and there are still several whale species that are critically endangered\, but the minke whale is not one of those species. Today problems like vessel strikes and fishing net entanglement is a much bigger problem than whale hunting.\n\nDinner will be served at 18:30 I hope.\n\n

In my family we always eat this at the 24th of December. Don't have too high expectations - my children hate it - but I love it.\n\nTraditionally served without any vegetables except potatoes and rutabaga mash\, after all the winter time isn't the prime vegetable season in Norway\, but perhaps someone could bring a green salad anyway?\n\n(Image credit: Jarvin)\n\n
